What's new
- Every failed item has a defect. When an operator fails an item on a pre-start, the failure always ends up on the Defects page. If the operator recorded a defect for it, that is the one you see. If they didn't, because they closed the defect form or the item wasn't a pass/fail question, PreStartGo raises one for them: titled with the checklist item, raised by the operator at the time of the pre-start, and marked Auto-raised.
- A known fault isn't recorded twice. If the machine already has an open defect for the same item, the new failure is linked to it instead. A defect that has been resolved but not yet closed doesn't count, so a fault that comes back after a fix gets a new defect.
- A failed critical item locks the machine until its defect is closed. The pre-start that failed doesn't unlock the machine, as before, and now its defect holds the machine too: every later pre-start on it fails until that defect is closed, and closing it lifts the lock automatically. That is the defect the operator recorded, the one PreStartGo raised (always Critical for a critical item), or the open defect the failure was linked to, whatever its severity. The defect shows Out of Service while the lock is on. Resolving the defect, or completing its repair service, doesn't lift the lock; closing it does.
- The emergency bypass still works. If a locked machine has to move, into a workshop bay or away from a hazard, the in-app bypass still unlocks it for a short, logged, time-limited window, exactly as after any failed pre-start. It doesn't clear the lock: the next pre-start still fails until the defect is closed.
- A technician's lockout is separate. An Out of Service lockout a Technician or Lead sets by hand still has to be lifted by hand: closing the defect never lifts it. It also still refuses the app's unlock outright, bypass included.
- Other items don't lock. Any other auto-raised defect is Medium, and a failed non-critical item never locks the machine.
- See where each defect came from. The Defects page has a source filter: Auto-raised, Recorded at pre-start, Raised by hand and Imported.
- Hired-in machines. Filtering the Defects page by one of your sites now includes the machines you've hired in and inducted there. A defect on a hired-in machine belongs to the machine's owner, so once the hire ends the pre-start's page says so, rather than linking to a defect you can no longer open.
What changes on release day
- Only new pre-starts. Defects are raised, and machines locked, for pre-starts done from release day onwards. Failed items on earlier pre-starts are not filled in, and a critical defect already open from an earlier pre-start doesn't lock its machine.
- More defects to work. Expect more open defects than before, mostly Medium ones for items operators failed without recording a defect. The Auto-raised filter shows them together.
- One new email. Each lock from a failed critical item sends the existing Equipment is locked out email, once, to everyone who receives it today. An auto-raised defect itself sends no email, push or in-app notification, the same as a defect an operator records during a pre-start.
