Overview
PreStartGo has four plans, named for who runs the machines rather than by feature tier. There is no "Free / Professional / Enterprise" ladder — each plan is a distinct starting point for a different kind of operation, and pricing has two independent parts everywhere: the plan fee below, plus a subscription for each device you fit. This article describes what each plan includes; for current pricing, ask our sales team.
| Plan | Machines | Kiosks | How you get it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plant Operator | A small number | — | Start free online |
| Contractor | Unlimited | — | Talk to us — we set it up for you |
| Builder | Unlimited | Unlimited | Talk to us — we set it up for you |
| Hire | Unlimited | — | Talk to us — we set it up for you |
Note
Users are unlimited on every plan, including the free one — there's no seat count to plan around. Devices are unlimited too; each carries its own monthly subscription, charged separately from the plan.
Plant Operator
The entry point, and the one plan you start yourself: choose Start free and sign up online. No credit card. A capped number of active machines, counting both machines you own and machines hired in to you — the console shows the cap and warns you before you reach it — with the full fleet feature set on all of them: services and maintenance, spot checks, documents, defect management, the audit trail, the public logbook, and the hardware interlocks themselves. Many organisations start here and stay.
Contractor
The one thing Contractor changes is the cap: unlimited machines. Plant Operator and Contractor share an identical feature set — what the fee buys is the removal of the machine cap, nothing else. That's deliberate: capability isn't withheld from the free plan to force an upgrade.
Builder
For the principal contractor who runs the site, Builder adds the entire host side: creating and managing sites, person and equipment inductions, walk-up check-in, toolbox talks, contractor management, observations — and it's the only plan with kiosks.
Hire
Built as a separate register for rental and plant-hire fleets — operating agreements, per-machine assignment and handover, off-hire, and depot locations. It is not a rung on the other plans' ladder, and an organisation doesn't convert between Hire and the fleet plans.
Hire's base plan deliberately excludes the fleet-side features its machines' operators use day to day (services, documents, spot checks, observations) — those come as the Fleet operations add-on, priced per active machine, for hire fleets that want them.
Moving to a paid plan
Every paid plan — Contractor, Builder and Hire — is set up for you by the PreStartGo team. Talk to us or email sales@prestartgo.com: we'll quote for your fleet, agree the plan and any add-ons with you, and switch your organisation over. Your records stay exactly where they are. See Moving to a Paid Plan.
The add-on catalogue
Add-ons layer onto any paid plan, priced separately:
| Add-on | What it adds |
|---|---|
| Scheduled reports | Automated report generation and email delivery |
| SMS notifications | Licence and access notices by SMS |
| AI assistant | Assistant features across the platform |
| Integrations | Third-party system integrations |
| Developer platform | REST API, outbound webhooks, and the MCP server |
| SSO + data residency | SAML 2.0 / OIDC single sign-on (coming), plus residency options |
| Premium support | Priority support arrangements |
| Fleet operations (Hire) | The fleet feature set, for Hire plans |
Notably: the API is not bundled into any plan — organisations that don't need it never fund it, and those that do pay for exactly it. See API Overview.
Edge cases
- Hired-in machines count too — they count towards the cap exactly like the ones you own, from the moment the owner books the hire, even one that starts on a later date. A hire that would take you past the cap is refused when the owner books it. Paid plans have no cap either way.
- Working on a Builder's site doesn't require upgrading — a Plant Operator or Contractor organisation operates on a governed site under the Builder's plan; visiting never forces a plan change.
- Add-ons follow the plan — cancel down to Plant Operator and paid add-ons end with the paid plan.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Blocked adding another machine | Plant Operator's machine cap | Talk to us about a paid plan |
| No sites/kiosks sections in the console | Not on Builder | Sites and kiosks are the host side — Builder territory |
| A feature the matrix says you have is off | A per-organisation override or add-on state | Ask support |
| Can't switch an org between Hire and Builder | The registers are deliberately separate | Talk to us about the right structure |
