Overview
The Tracker is PreStartGo's standalone cellular tracking device. It reports a machine's position over LTE and GNSS to your live fleet map, and raises an alert when a machine enters or leaves a zone, loses power, or drops offline.
Warning
The Tracker has no interlock of its own — it never asserts or releases a relay, and it cannot lock or unlock equipment. Interlock enforcement comes only from an Interlock. The Tracker's entire job is tracking.

The alerts a Tracker can raise
A Tracker raises a defined set of notifications, and it is worth knowing the exact list so you know what it will — and will not — tell you:
- Zone entry and exit — a machine crossing a geofenced zone boundary.
- Power lost / power restored — wired power to the Tracker dropping out and returning; the internal battery keeps it reporting through an outage.
- Low voltage — the Tracker's supply running down.
- Offline — the Tracker has stopped reporting entirely (out of cellular coverage, or without any power left).
How each of these reaches your team — and who receives them — is configured with the rest of your notification preferences in the admin console.
How it's deployed
The Tracker is fitted one of two ways:
- Alongside an Interlock, adding live tracking to an interlock-enforced machine. The Interlock stays hidden for tamper resistance; the Tracker is mounted separately, with a clear view of the sky for GNSS reception.
- Standalone, on equipment that needs tracking but no interlock — a light vehicle, a trailer, or an attachment you simply want to keep visible on the map.
A machine carries at most one Tracker — it is a single telemetry source per asset. Fitting one needs no auto electrician and none of the safety-critical wiring rules that govern an Interlock installation: it runs on its internal battery plus wired power.
What it adds to your fleet map
Without a Tracker, a machine's map position is its last-known location — captured from the operator's phone at the most recent pre-start. With a Tracker, position updates continuously, every 30–60 seconds, whether or not anyone has inspected the machine today. The live position supersedes the phone-derived one wherever both exist.
See Managing Your Fleet for where tracking appears in the console.
Availability and billing
Note
The Tracker is coming and isn't on sale yet — contact us to register interest.
- Hardware (outright) — bought outright, with a 12-month warranty from purchase.
- Cellular tracking subscription — billed per device, per month, on every plan including Plant Operator.
The subscription covers the cellular connection and the live tracking surface. It bills from the day the device is commissioned — not the day you buy it — and stops when the device is released. Any signed multi-year term discount applies to it like any other recurring line. See How Device Subscriptions Bill.
Tracker vs Interlock vs GoTag
| Device | Start enforcement | Live tracking | Wiring required |
|---|---|---|---|
| Interlock | Yes | No | Yes — licensed auto electrician |
| Tracker | No | Yes | No — battery plus wired power |
| GoTag | No | No | No — adhesive label |
Each device does one job. A machine can combine any of them depending on whether it needs interlock enforcement, live tracking, or both — and every machine should carry a GoTag regardless, since that is what anchors inspections and the public logbook.
Edge cases
- A Tracker on a borrowed machine keeps reporting to the owner's map, and only the owner sees its positions. The operating organisation sees the machine in its fleet, but not where the Tracker places it — see cross-org rental.
- Coverage gaps — a Tracker out of cellular range keeps positioning and reports when coverage returns; a long silence raises the offline alert rather than passing unnoticed.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Offline alert | No cellular coverage, or no power remaining | Check the machine's location for coverage; check the Tracker's wired supply |
| Power-lost alert | Wired supply interrupted (isolator, flat battery) | The internal battery is carrying it — restore wired power before it drains |
| Position stale on the map | Machine parked out of coverage | The last-known position holds until the Tracker reports again |
| No live position at all | Machine has no Tracker fitted | Only the last pre-start location is available for that machine |
